Inaugurated on June 28th in Bordeaux, La Méca is the Maison de l’Économie Créative et de la Culture en Aquitaine, a majestic project by BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group, in collaboration with Freaks.
Located in the district of Euratlantique, on the banks of the Garonne river, the Méca is a bright arch with special perspectives and vanishing points that create an illusion of movement. The building is covered by 4800 concrete panels which recall the colour of Bruxelles’ light brown stone, part of the UNESCO world heritage.
The uncountable windows of the building look like pixels that let the light in and make the inner spaces permeable and transparent. La Méca is a lively dynamic place, open to anybody, where even the external spaces are available as a stage for concerts and cultural events.
It can be accessed by day and by night, thanks to illuminated ramps and stairs.
