Microtopping® covers the floor and TV cabinet of a small house located in Manilva, near Malaga. Soft colours, natural materials and calm are the great pillars of the project, combined with the continuity and velvety effect of Microtopping®.
Welcome to Manilva, in the Western Costa del Sol — an Andalusian municipality in the province of Malaga. In such a maritime context, a home should be bright, promote relaxation of the mind and be a perfect window onto the blue of the waves. This is exactly how this home, created by designer Van Britt, was conceived. Light tones of cream and beige were used in contrast with espresso-coloured details to create a comfortable and relaxed environment.
All the rooms feature the same light tones, broken up by a few eye-catching details, such as the vertical tiles in the shower cubicle in the bathroom which add texture and depth alongside the perfectly smooth walls and furniture.
The house is over two floors: the ground floor is organised as an open space and includes the kitchen and living room; going upstairs, you reach the sleeping area and the bathroom. The kitchen and living room are separated by a wall unit that houses a fireplace and a bookcase which hides the television: this is perhaps the most unique part of the house, it is a solution that does not forcefully fit into the space, but rather camouflages itself and almost disappears from view. This was possible thanks to Microtopping®, a polymer-cement solution that can be used to cover any solid horizontal and vertical surface in just 3 mm of thickness, thus creating seamless, velvety environments. Primarily chosen for the floor, it was also used on the TV cabinet, thus creating maximum fluidity between surfaces, giving elegance and a contemporary feel to the environment.
Present in every room, the velvety effect of Microtopping® combines with the use of natural materials and fabrics, as well as dark wood details — a set of elements that makes the home a warm and modern nest.
Because it is a seamless surface, Microtopping® brings together the rooms of the house, making them flow into one another with great simplicity. The result is a true oasis of relaxation.
